Safari Overview

This 12 days Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Zanzibar safari combines a long, relaxed wildlife safari with four nights on the Indian Ocean. You start in Arusha, travel by road into the Serengeti for five nights in a luxury safari camp, continue to the Ngorongoro Crater, then finish with four nights at a boutique resort in Zanzibar.

The Serengeti is the main wildlife highlight. With five nights in the park, there is plenty of time for morning and afternoon game drives without rushing from one area to another. Lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and large herds of wildebeest are all possible, with the exact sightings depending on the season and where the animals are moving.

From the Serengeti, you continue by road towards Ngorongoro for a full day exploring the crater. The crater floor is home to a high concentration of wildlife and is one of the best places in Tanzania to look for lion, elephant, buffalo, zebra, wildebeest and, with luck, rhino.

The final four nights are in Zanzibar, where the pace changes completely. You will have a Stone Town spice tour, a Mnemba Atoll snorkelling experience and free time for beach days and other island activities. It is a good way to finish a safari after several days in the bush.

Five Nights in the Serengeti Stay longer in the Serengeti with five nights in a luxury safari camp
Ngorongoro Crater Wildlife Explore the crater floor where wildlife is concentrated in a dramatic volcanic landscape
Stone Town Spice Tour Discover Zanzibar spices, local farming and the history around Stone Town
Mnemba Atoll Snorkelling Swim and snorkel in clear Indian Ocean waters, with other activities available

Best Time to Visit

June to October is one of the most popular times for this trip. The Serengeti is generally dry, wildlife is easier to spot and the days are good for game drives.

January to March is also excellent, especially if you want to see the wildebeest calving season in the Serengeti. Zanzibar is warm throughout the year, although some months are wetter than others.

November to May can be greener and quieter. There are fewer visitors in many areas, and the landscape can be beautiful after the rains.
